For the first Psychedelics for Climate Action event in our series, after the invite was released, two speakers were able to join, one of which was Daniel Pinchbeck, a controversial author about whose presence we received feedback. When we approached Daniel, we were unaware of the controversy in his personal life. He subsequently raised this issue, and we consulted with several female members of the psychedelic and environmental communities about whether to include him. I now understand that when highlighting someone as a speaker, this should be announced publicly and clearly in advance so anyone uncomfortable can raise objections and/or choose not to join. I deeply apologize.

Due to his openness and efforts to make reparations, and because of his contribution and leadership in these conversations over the years, we decided not to retract our invitation. However, I acknowledge, understand, and honor that some people and organizations still stand against elevating his voice.

As the invite had already been sent out, and he was not certain he could participate, I made a quick call to add him as a “surprise guest” if he could join, along with Dr. Nathan Dufour, our other addition. In hindsight, I see this was a mistake to add someone of this nature without an announcement, and it is now a growth opportunity. I sincerely apologize to anyone who came and felt unprepared, hurt, sad, or upset.

In the spirit of psychedelics and ego dissolution, we welcome open dialog and advice about such matters and want to continue to learn and develop frameworks to engage and cultivate this community in the best possible way.
